Founded in 2003, Temwa is a Bristol based charity whose mission is to develop self-sufficient communities in hard-to-reach areas of northern Malawi – itself the third poorest country in the world. We serve the communities of Nkhata Bay North, a very remote area and home to around 55,000 people. Our aim is to provide an infrastructure to support families in this region facing financial and humanitarian hardship. We accomplish this by implementing programmes in health, education, agriculture and forestry. All of our projects are community-driven meaning that local communities are actively involved in the design and implementation of the projects. We deliver our programmes by our in-country Temwa team, all of them nationals with many from the local area, as such they have a deep local and operational knowledge of the needs of Nkhata Bay North.

Story

I have been part of 'Mountain Men' a group set up last year to get men out and walking and talking to support our mental health (and share the occasional beer!) and occasionally to raise funds for great causes!

On May 11th I will be doing a 20km walk and taking part in a Brecon Beacons trek to raise money for Temwa.

Temwa works in remote, rural areas of Northern Malawi – where poverty and climate change are a daily reality.

Temwa aim to develop thriving, inclusive and self-reliant communities that are able to transform their own futures. Their programmes include Forestry and agriculture, education and healthcare.
