Scottish Huntington's Association supports families impacted by Huntington’s disease (HD). 800 people in Scotland have HD with a further 3200 at risk of developing it in the future. HD impacts the ability to walk, talk and swallow, can cause mental illness and affects mood, memory and mobility.

Story

🧬 Alistair’s Fundraiser for Scottish Huntington’s Association

This October, I’ll be celebrating my 40th birthday—not just with friends and family, but by raising awareness and funds for a cause that’s shaped my life in profound ways: Huntington’s disease.

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Huntington’s—a rare genetic condition that affects movement, cognition, and emotional well-being. But my connection to Huntington’s began long before my own diagnosis. My mum, Anne Wilson, lived with HD and passed away around 20 years ago. She was my HD parent, and this fundraiser is as much in her memory as it is about the future.

To mark this milestone, I’m hosting a charity raffle and celebration in Inverness, with all proceeds going to the Scottish Huntington’s Association—a lifeline for families like mine. Their work is vital, and recently, there’s been a breakthrough: researchers have discovered a treatment called AMT-130, which slows the progression of Huntington’s by 75% using gene therapy. It’s the first of its kind, and it gives real hope to so many.

I’ve also shared my personal journey on a podcast, which you can listen to on Spotify 🎧. It’s raw, honest, and full of hope.

My fundraising goal is £4,000—a thousand pounds for every decade I’ve been alive. It’s a symbolic target, but more importantly, it represents the impact we can make together. Whether you donate £5 or £50, your support means the world. Every contribution helps fund care, advocacy, and research—and brings us closer to a future where Huntington’s is no longer a life sentence.

Thank you for standing with me—and for honouring my mum’s memory alongside mine.
