It's hard to believe but it is 10 years since I left the NHS to set up Include.org - a charity working for a world where everyone with understanding or speaking difficulties is included, wherever they are.

Communication difficulties affect every part of your life and will affect 1 in 5 of us in the UK.

A communication difficulty can occur in childhood, like a developmental language disorder or speech difficulty, may be acquired in later life, through dementia, brain injury or stroke, or be lifelong due to learning disability or autism.

By changing the way individuals, organisations and communities engage with people with communication needs, we can help people reach their potential and live full and happy lives.

Our 10th birthday year marks the start of our 'Be an Includer' campaign, seeking to make a real step change in how people with communication needs are seen and supported - and so I am making a step change to launch the campaign, aiming to walk 100km in less than 24 hours.
