Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In May/June 2024, a couple of weeks after my friend Davids 66th birthday, we got the news that nobody wants to hear.
David was diagnosed with Stage 2 prostate cancer. The treatment he has had has been amazing from his GP, to Ninewells Hospital, Maggie's Centre and the Western General in Edinburgh and of course not forgetting the blood donor centre in Dundee as it was them who first noticed something wasnt right when they tested his blood during a visit to donate blood.
Over the months that followed there were various treatments starting off with tablets and injections to shrink the size of the prostate before finally on Friday 15th November 2024 at the Western General, Edinburgh, David had Brachytherapy which involved implanting around 100 radioactive seeds into the prostate which delivered radiation treatment over the course of 3 months.
David had some blood tests carried out a few weeks ago which show his PSA levels are now normal which is hopefully a positive sign.
During this time, he has regularly attended the Maggie's Centre and has even joined their choir. They were also excellent when his son Ross showed up there a bit upset and scared of what lay ahead back at the very beginning when we didnt know how advanced it was. They sat and spoke and reassured him and also asked for Davids bank details and immediately sent him £200 to help towards travel costs for attending his appointments so its only right that we would like to give something back and say thank you for everything so Me, David, Hannah and Ross will be taking on the Mighty Stride.
If you can spare anything at all then we (and the charities) will be forever grateful for every penny. The money is going to Sir Chris Hoys Tour de 4 fundraiser which will be split between Breast Cancer Now, Cancer Research UK, Macmillan, Maggies and Prostate Cancer UK).
