Story
Hi,
Some of you may be aware I have signed up to run the Glencoe Marathon in September this year, described as Scotland’s toughest marathon (https://glencoemarathon.co.uk). I previously completed the run in 2014 – you would think I had learned my lesson!
As part of the challenge, I would like to raise some money for charity in memory of my Uncle Lyall who sadly passed away earlier this year just before his 80th birthday.
My uncle was a dedicated runner (unlike me) who had a marathon personal best of 2hours 30 minutes, and he was still running 10km races in under 40 minutes well into his fifties.
Running was only one of his passions, the other one was being a veterinarian devoting his life to caring for animals, both farm and wild animals.
He regularly went above and beyond to help animals in need. At one point he rescued a baby moose that had fallen into a well and climbed trees to get leaves to feed it afterwards.
Lyall worked at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Canada from 1985 and continued supporting the vet clinic since retirement. He also was a great mentor for younger generations of veterinarians. The Saskatoon Zoo recently named a newborn caribou in his memory: https://thestarphoenix.com/news/a-close-encounter-with-saskatoons-newborn-caribou-ambassador/?utm_id=97757_v0_s00_e0_tv2_a1demoo4stbswc
In his memory, I have chosen a local animal charity, New Arc Wildlife Rescue (https://www.newarcwildliferescue.org/)
