Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
There are an estimated 3.5 million people in the UK living with cancer, with someone being diagnosed on average every 90 seconds. Chances are that's someone you're going to know.
For me in 2017, that person was my Mam. Nothing can quite prepare you for the news or the emotional rollercoaster that comes along with a cancer diagnosis, but there are some brilliant charities that offer invaluable support along the way. One of those charities for us was WICCI - The Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative, who work in partnership with MacMillan Cancer Support to address the needs and provide support for specific issues faced by cancer patients and their families throughout the Western Isles.
This support includes amazing services such as complementary therapies, group activities, counselling services and a £400 grant to help those in the Western Isles living with cancer. These grants can be used to support costs such as; basic living expenses, travel costs (over and above those supported by Patient Travel) and specialist equipment or support required as a result of a cancer diagnosis, treatment or recovery. WICCI has supported over 1020 individuals since the WICCI Social Fund was established in 2018, distributing over £512,000 in that time.
It's been nearly 10 years since I ran a 10K event, so it seemed like a good time dust off the old trainers and put them to some good use! My hopeful aim is to raise £400 to be able to help out another family like ours back home and to say thanks to WICCI for all of the wonderful work that they undertake to best support those who need it most at such a difficult time.
I would like to thank you very much for taking the time to read this page and hopefully it's encouraged you to donate to a really wonderful cause that's incredibly close to my heart.
I'm doing it for my Mammy Tosh, and for all those out there just like her.
