Allison's fundraiser for UK Sepsis Trust

Allison Nelson is raising money for UK Sepsis Trust
In memory of Liz Clark

London Summer Walk 2025 · 23 August 2025 ·

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

My dear friend Liz died in December 2023 after a very short illness, when sepsis took hold before anyone knew and it was too late to save her. She was an amazing lady, full of life, with so many plans for the future with her dear husband Malcolm and precious children Christopher and Alice. Taken way too young, we will always remember and miss her dry humour, common sense approach to life and fun. I have chosen this charity as fundraising is at the heart of it's fight against sepsis.

It raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms.

It also funds vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing their Support Group network. They also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
