Story
I'll be taking part in the London Marathon in honour of my nephew James who is the very definition of inner strength and resilience.
James was diagnosed with Scoliosis in 2021 after he was rushed to hospital after losing the use of his legs. It was then discovered that a large benign tumour caused the Scoliosis and it was so intertwined they couldn’t see what was tumour and what was his spine.
Since then James has undergone 70 rounds of chemo over the course of 18 months alongside extreme corrective surgeries to try to reduce the size of his tumour. Despite being told he may never walk again, he defied the odds, not only being able to walk but also embracing activities like boxing and fishing. While being grateful for all James has already overcome, he still has a long road ahead, including fusion surgery to correct his scoliosis.
Both James, my brother (James dad) and their whole family have constantly had to battle through hard decisions, gruelling recoveries and have faced curve ball after curveball. So this race is for them and families going through the unimaginable. The thought of a marathon somewhat terrifies me but it is nothing compared to what James has faced. It would be an honour to raise money for such an incredible charity and help bring a little bit of hope to those who need it.
