Story
This September, I’m heading back to Utah for Trailfest. This time it’s in Moab, where I’ll run three trail races in three days through heat, sand, slickrock, and whatever else the desert throws at me.
Why?
Because colorectal cancer stole my son, Britt, when he was just 30 years old.
Thirty.
Far too young to be worried about colon cancer. Far too young to be diagnosed. Far too young to die.
To participate in Trailfest, I’ve again committed to raising funds for the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. The Alliance works to educate, advocate, support patients and families, and push for earlier detection and better outcomes. Most recently they announced KLEOS, a groundbreaking adaptive clinical trial platform that will bring lifesaving trials to patients earlier.
I can’t change what happened to Britt. If I could, I’d run a thousand miles.
What I can do is keep telling his story, keep raising awareness, and keep fighting for the day when fewer families hear the words that changed ours forever.
Your story matters, too.
I’m running in memory of Britt, but I know our family isn’t alone. If colorectal cancer has touched your life, I’d be honored if you’d share your story with me. Throughout this campaign, I’ll be sharing stories to put real faces behind the statistics and remind people why this fight matters. Visit our For the Love of Britt stories page here.
