Wheelchair Across The Alps - Alps 4 Ataxia

Wheelchair Across The Alps (Alps 4 Ataxia) · 20 June 2025
I'm Ben and I have a rare neurological condition called Ataxia. Together with my friends Peter and Phil we are going to attempt to be the first people to cross The Alps in manual wheelchairs with no power assist. We are aiming to raise as much money as we can to help the charity Ataxia UK find a cure for Ataxia and support all affected by Ataxia in the UK and around the world.
The route will take us from Montreux on Lake Geneva in Switzerland to Como on the Italian Lakes. A journey of 400km with an assent of 6500m. We expect it to take 10 to 12 days.
We have been training for this epic challenge for over a year and along the way we have completed a series of mini challenges including:
1) The London 2024 Marathon (42km)
2) The Brighton 2025 Marathon (42km)
3 ) Wheeling the Tube, an ongoing project, currently we have pushed our wheelchairs to every station on the Northern Line (92km), District Line (108km) and Bakerloo Line (43KM) with each line being done in a day.
4) A half marathon (21km) every day for 14 days in a row.
5) The Applecross Pass, Scotland a climb of over 2000 feet (620 meters)
500 children and 10,000 adults in the UK have Ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure. It provides support to people with Ataxia to help them life their best life.
