Over the past three years Community Action Ghana have renovated and sourced books for four libraries in Ghana. These are used by both school children and communities.

The most recent library renovation was in Lolobi. Students from three local schools attend in reading time and to study, as well as around 30 people from the community each day. The library is open from 8am to 9pm every day and run by Juliette, the Librarian. One gentleman we met when renovating the library, had recently moved back to Lolobi, a small rural community, after working in Accra for 40 years. He was delighted to see a library was being built as he had resigned himself to not being able to access any books in his retirement by returning home. He is now a regular at the library!

Community Action Ghana is delighted to receive books from Book Aid International to stock the libraries. The books are donated free of charge; however Community Action Ghana must pay for the customs clearance and for transporting the books from Tema to the libraries in the Volta Region.

A new shipment of 2,617 books has just arrived in Ghana. The full cost of collecting and distributing these books is £1,120. We are urgently seeking funding to help us collect the books and distribute them to the libraries that need them.

Note: If enough funds are raised to collect & distribute these books, any additional donations will go towards Community Action Ghana’s work; refurbishing & restocking more libraries and building toilets.
