Challenge 25 - no alcohol and 25k in races for my 25th year on earth · 15 March 2025

Family members try and do all they can to support someone with an alcohol or drug problem. There are many people in Scotland who are doing this on their own and in silence. Your donations will help us to continue our work supporting families across Scotland.

Story

This year I am turning 25 years old, to honour and celebrate this I am doing a year-long fundraiser for Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs.

For this fundraiser, "Challenge 25", I will be abstaining from all alcohol for 365 days (10th March 2024 - 10th March 2025) and over the year will run 5, 5k races, totalling 25k in races (not including the many kilometres of training in between).

My family, like many in Scotland, has a long history of alcohol abuse. As a nation, Scotland has a serious alcohol and drug abuse problem. People with an addiction need support to recover, and so do their families. So I thought this was the ideal cause to raise money for by not drinking and quite literally taking 'positive steps' (running 25K in races) to help families affected by alcohol (and drugs).

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs is a national charity that supports anyone concerned about someone else’s alcohol or drug use in Scotland. We give listening support and information to many people and help them with confidence, communication, and general well-being, and link them to local support. We also help people recognise and understand the importance of looking after themselves.
