Scaling New Heights for Young People

Amanda Martin is raising money for Motiv8 South

Motiv8 2026 Spinnaker Tower Abseil · 4 July 2026

In July, a fearless team of Motiv8 staff, partners & supporters will abseil down Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower to raise vital funds to support young people across Gosport, Havant, Portsmouth and Fareham to help give them a brighter future.

Story

Well, I’ve been privileged enough to do a lot of things as your MP… But I’m still not entirely convinced I’ve made the right decision in signing up for this! But I do know what great Motivate do in our city and I’m proud to support them!

On Saturday 4th July, I’ll be taking on a challenge that is very far outside my comfort zone: abseiling down Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower to raise vital funds for Motiv8 and the incredible work they do supporting young people across our city.

Now, when I agreed to this, "abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower" sounded like a great idea. Unfortunately, I’ve since looked up and at 170 metres tall, the Spinnaker Tower is one of the South Coast’s most recognisable landmarks.

In just a few weeks, I’ll be stepping over the edge and making a 100-metre descent down the side of it. To be clear, this is not something I would normally do voluntarily.

The things we do for a good cause!

And Motiv8 really is a cause worth facing my fear of heights for. For more than 25 years, they’ve been helping young people unlock brighter futures across Portsmouth. They work with children, young people and families facing a range of challenges, providing support, opportunities and encouragement to help them thrive.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help Motiv8 continue their life-changing work and ensure more young people have the chance to build positive, confident futures.

So, if you'd like to support a fantastic local charity and help make my moment of sheer panic at the top worthwhile, I’d be incredibly grateful for your donation.

Please donate if you can. And if you happen to see me clinging to the side of the tower refusing to move, a few words of encouragement would also be appreciated!

Thank you for your support.
