365 Wild Swims

Amanda Pottinger is raising money for Shetland Hyperbaric Centre

365 Wild Swims

Islanders currently have to travel to mainland Scotland/UK to access HBOT at considerable cost. Shetland Hyperbaric Centre will give the community affordable access to therapy for a wide range of conditions, including Fibromyalgia, Long Covid and MS, of which Shetland has one of the highest rates.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am challenging myself to complete 365 wild swims over 12 months to raise money for the Shetland Hyperbaric Centre. I began my challenge in December 2025.

Over the past 2 years I had to travel to Aberdeen to access Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at the Grampian MS Therapy Centre, which helped with my recovery from Long Covid.

Increasing the oxygen concentration in your body helps stimulate the body’s natural healing process. The pressurized environment helps oxygen dissolve more efficiently into your tissues, promoting faster recovery, speeding up the repair of damaged tissues and enhancing the body’s natural healing processes.

After experiencing the improvement to my own health following HBOT sessions I am keen to support the Shetland Hyperbaric Centre Team, as they work towards making this therapy available in Shetland so that expensive and stressful travel to the mainland will no longer be necessary.

Any money raised will go toward the costs of running the Shetland Hyperbaric Centre and benefit those within the Shetland community who wish to, self-refer and access HBOT.
