40 Before 40 – Pendle Hill Challenge
As many of you know, I turn 40 very soon… and in a slightly last‑minute moment of sunshine-fuelled madness, I set myself a challenge.
40 walks up Pendle Hill before my 40th birthday.
I started this just 34 days before my birthday, when the weather was glorious and the idea was simply:
“Let’s see how many I can manage… and once I start, there’s no backing out.”
How it started
The original plan was one walk a day, with a few days needing two trips up , one in the morning and one later in the day.
Then last Saturday, I decided to try something I never thought I’d do…
Two Pendle Hill climbs in one go.
To my absolute surprise, I achieved it.
Two climbs, back-to-back. Something I genuinely never believed I was capable of.
The plan now
So the plan has evolved (as good plans often do):
• Some days: two climbs in one walk
• More rest days (thankfully!)
• Less total mileage overall
• And the final climb will be on my birthday
The challenge is now locked in.
Why I’m doing this
I’m fundraising in memory of my brother, Chris.
13th April marks three years since Chris died after taking his own life.
This challenge is deeply personal. I’m incredibly grateful for my own wellbeing, and while this is a tough and slightly crazy challenge, it’s one I’ve chosen.
People do not choose to have a Mental Illness
That’s why I’m raising money for Hope & Mind, my Trust’s charity, which supports mental health, learning disability and autism services.
How you can help
I’ve been so grateful for everyone who’s already reached out to walk with me, your support means more than you know.
And I’m also mindful that hill walking isn’t everyone’s thing (very sensible).
You can still be part of this by:
• Donating
• Sharing this page
• Sending encouragement
• Helping me raise funds for a truly amazing charity
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Thank you so much for your support, kindness, and encouragement – it really does keep me going, one step (and one hill) at a time. 💚
