Amanda & Sinead's Shared Marathon for Aphasia Support

Sinead Murtagh is raising money for Aphasia Support

A shared marathon for Aphasia Support

Aphasia is a language disorder which affects a person’s ability to speak, read, write and understand language. There are an estimated 350,000 people living with a diagnosis of Aphasia in the UK, often the devastating result of a stroke or head injury. Aphasia Support is a registered charity providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support to people with Aphasia, and their carers. The charity aims to improve the quality of life for people with Aphasia, helping them to regain control, confidence and independence. With your kindness and generosity, we can create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence.

Story

We’re a pair of Irish/Yorkshire lasses doing something slightly mad — running a shared marathon for Aphasia Support.

This charity supports people with communication challenges after stroke or brain injury, helping them regain confidence, independence and connection. They’ve been a huge support to our Auntie Breda and Uncle Steve, and we’ve seen first-hand how powerful that help can be.

Our Breda has always been bold, feisty and full of life. After her stroke, some of that was lost — but thanks to Aphasia Support, her spark is making a comeback. And honestly, that means everything.

Below is a short video so you can hear more about Breda & Steve's story and how this small charity makes a huge difference.

We’re splitting the marathon — Cambridge, UK (8 March) and Noosa, Australia (23 May) — despite never running a race before. We’ll be knackered, no doubt… but we’ll crack on for a cause that truly matters.

Each donation makes a difference, and all are appreciated. Let’s show what northern grit — and big hearts — are all about.

Thanks in advance!
