Story
Hi, I’m Amar — a reluctant runner as of late August.
Full disclosure: the same weekend as the Royal Parks Half Marathon (Oct 11), the Tiramisu World Cup is happening — a competition, about tiramisu, that I had planned to attend. I would have gladly spent 13.1 miles’ worth of energy carrying a spoon around Treviso but instead, I’ll be pounding the pavement for Forgotten Patients, Overlooked Diseases.
Forgotten Patients is a cause close to home, run by people in my own community who are part of a multidisciplinary team supporting people living with enduring symptoms and conditions that can be difficult to diagnose or understand.
Too many patients spend months or even years searching for answers, often feeling overlooked, unheard or unsure where to turn. Forgotten Patients is working to change this — giving patients a voice, raising awareness, supporting research and education, and encouraging better, more compassionate care.
We all know someone — a family member, a relative, a friend, a friend-of-a-friend — who’s been through exactly this.
So I’m trading my tiramisu temptations for trainers, taking on 13.1 miles to help make sure forgotten patients are forgotten no more.
Guess my finishing time. Drop your estimate in the comments alongside your donation — closest guess wins a tiramisu-themed prize (the irony is not lost on me). Any donation amount, in any currency, all goes to a brilliant cause.
Thank you for contributing, and taking a few minutes to understand how this charity can improve our collective health and wellbeing.
