Story
I have always said I wouldnāt run a marathon but walking one in the Peak District up and down actual mountains - yeah why not! š my feet will hate me but please have a read below to see why weāre doing this and please give what you can!
My Mother in Law, Maria, has aggressive early-onset Alzheimerās. She can no longer communicate or do many of the things she used to, and it has left us feeling helpless at times.
Watching someone so full of life fade away has been heartbreaking, but we want to do something positive to honour her and to help others in the future.
Maria has always been the life of the party. Sheās bubbly, hilarious, and warm-hearted, the kind of person who could light up any room she walked into. She loved watching Most Haunted, going on bike rides, travelling to her favourite places, spending time with her two boys, her husband Butch, our dog Chorizo (who still brings her so much joy), and her many friends who adore her.
Even though this disease has taken so much from her, her spark and strength still shine through in small moments, a smile, a laugh, or the way she reacts when Chorizo comes to visit. Her husband, Butch, has been absolutely incredible, showing endless patience, love, and care every single day.
To do something meaningful, the two of us, Mike and I are walking a marathon to raise money for Alzheimerās Society. Every step is for Maria and for the hope that one day, families wonāt have to experience this heartbreaking illness. We want there to be a cure and better support for those affected in the future.
If youāre able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to us. Your support helps fund vital research and provides help for families living with Alzheimerās right now.
We have to raise a minimum of £300 each but I reckon we can smash that!
Thank you for helping us walk for Maria, for her memories, her laughter, and her incredible spirit. š
