Story
Hi, i’m Amber and I'm taking part in the Brave to Wear fundraiser for Rainbow Valley to raise awareness of what it’s like to live with a chronic cancer diagnosis as a young person. I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in my fourth year of university, at the age of 21, and I continued treatment while studying. Despite everything, I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Marketing Management — something I’m really proud of.
I've now been on daily targeted treatment (TKIs) for over three years. While I’m grateful these treatments exist, the side effects — especially the fatigue — are brutal and often invisible. Chronic cancers don’t go away; they require constant management. It’s incredibly difficult going through this in your 20s, when you don’t have the same energy levels as your peers and have to constantly adapt your lifestyle, career, and future plans.
Rainbow Valley provides crucial support to people like me, helping us find ways to live well with and beyond cancer. By taking part in this fundraiser, I hope to raise awareness, share my story, and help others feel seen and supported.
Please spare what you can to sponsor this exciting challenge I am about to embrace and together we can help this amazing charity. Please check out their website for more info. www.rainbowvalley.org.uk
