Story
A few months ago, I decided to enter Chester Marathon… for fun… Now it is only a couple of weeks away and I’ve been thinking that if I’m going to suffer through 26.2 miles of ‘fun’ (in what I am *currently* expecting to be a one off), someone may as well benefit from it! I started looking for a charity to support a couple of weeks ago.
There are so many great charities to choose from but with some advice from my resident expert I decided there were three things that were important to me:
1. It needed to be a charity that supports children and young people, particularly young adults, in some way.
2. I wanted to support a small charity where a bit of extra money and support could make a huge difference.
3. Local charities were preferable.
After quite a bit of research (because there are some incredible charities out there and I wish I could give a little bit of money to all of them), I decided on the North West Children’s Support Group.
NWCSG are a small charity based in Lancashire which provides holidays and social events for children with additional needs or disabilities. Many of these children would otherwise not get a holiday and the events also provide parents and guardians with respite from their full-time care.
NWCSG is a completely voluntary organisation and all their carers are volunteers who give up their own holidays to provide stimulating experiences to those they support.
The charity receive no government grants or other regular funding. They rely completely on their own fundraising events and donations.
I’ve only recently become aware of this charity but it is so wonderful to learn about people who are dedicated to helping to bring joy to the lives of others in a world that sometimes feels very lacking in good news at the moment.
If you’ve made it all the way down my rambling pitch, I’d really appreciate it if you could drop a small donation into my JustGiving pot for NWCSG - they will be able to put the money to good use and bring a little bit of magic to the lives of a few more young people.
