Story

In 2019, we lost our wonderful Mum, Hilary Coley, to Motor Neurone Disease.

In memory of Hilary and to raise much needed funds for MND UK Amber, Lucy, Lee and Jim are taking part in The London Winter Walk half marathon.

MND hit our family hard; its an awful illness and one that no one can prepare you for. Not only did Mum have dementia at the time of her MND diagnosis; which meant that she could not properly understand what was happening, but it meant that as a family we were told we had only a matter of months left with her and that the road would be incredibly hard as she deteriorated fast being unable to speak, eat, swallow, walk or look after herself.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) affects the nerves called motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord. The nerves tell your muscles what to do, leading them to weaken, stiffen and waste. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.

MND is life shortening and there is no cure.
