Story
I’m really proud to be running the London Marathon 2026(!) for LOROS, in memory of my lovely Dad, Mark Elliott, and my Nanny, Gillian Elliott, both of whom passed away in 2020 after a short battle with cancer.
LOROS cares for more than 2,500 terminally ill patients and their families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland each year, and in the summer of 2020 my family experienced first hand how amazing and vital their work is.
For my Nanny, LOROS looked after her after she left the hospital - we visited her and brought our dogs to say hello, including the evening before she peacefully passed away in their care.
My Dad passed away a couple of weeks later, and although he stayed at home for his palliative care, LOROS supported him each step of the way, including taking him in for treatment and regularly checking in with us to answer any questions we might have.
LOROS continued to support my family after their deaths by offering us all bereavement counselling from their lovely staff, all free of charge.
Unfortunately, LOROS is experiencing severe financial challenges resulting in a £2 million shortfall this year, forcing them to reduce some of their vital services for patients and families, including fewer inpatient beds, reduced day therapy and cuts to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, and chaplaincy.
My fundraising target is £1,750 and every single donation - big or small - will help ensure LOROS can continue to provide their care for thousands of patients and families like mine for years to come:
- £6 could pay for meals for a patient for a day
- £11 could pay for collection of a patient from home for day therapy
- £27 could pay for an hour of specialist palliative nursing care
- £1310 could pay for the running of the Hospice for an hour
Thank you!!
