The Phoenix Project is a charity that supports displaced doctors’ qualification to practice medicine in the UK, predominantly through English language teaching sessions. Our team is made up of medical students and junior doctors, and we currently operate in Nottingham, Leeds, Bristol and Birmingham.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and for any donation possible, especially in the current climate.

I am raising money for The Phoenix Project, a charity I have volunteered with since February 2020, that supports displaced doctors (refugees or asylum-seekers) in their GMC qualification to practice Medicine in the UK and in turn, help combat the growing NHS staffing crisis. This is primarily achieved through UK medical students providing medical English language lessons for both the Occupational English Test (OET) and Professional and Linguistic Assessment Boards (PLAB).

A doctor without a licence to practice Medicine is clearly an incredible loss of identity, let alone to be coupled with international displacement as well. The costs of GMC qualification examinations are expensive for anyone (£1434 passing all 3 exams first time), let alone for someone whose legal status prevents them from working. My target is to raise the funds for an OET exam for one of our participants, and I would be extremely grateful for any support your are able to provide towards this.

For training updates, keep an eye on my strava :) !

Lots of love,

Amelia x
