Story
On Saturday 15th June, I will be amongst 12 amateur jockeys taking part in The Macmillan Charity 2024 Race ‘Ride of Their Lives’ at York Racecourse. It is the oldest and largest event of its kind in the country, raising over £10 million in its 52 year history for people living with cancer.
York is my family’s local course and is one of the most prestigious courses in the country. The Macmillan race is something I have aspired to participate in for years, not only because it would be riding on home turf but would combine fundraising for a charity that has helped so many undertaking cancer treatment.
We all, sadly, have close affiliations with those undergoing current treatment, have lost loved ones to the dreadful disease and are realistic that at some point it will affect friends, family or colleagues going forward. I lost my aunt to pancreatic cancer in 2016 and Macmillan were an incredible support to her until the bitter end. The race is a chance to give something back as a thank you and achieve a personal goal in her memory.
Please give as generously as possible.
