Story
My little man was diagnosed as a coeliac 2 years ago now, a serious and chronic autoimmune disorder, caused by the consumption of gluten, a protein found in wheat and other grains such as barley, and rye.
When a coeliac consumes gluten, it triggers an inflammatory response in the small intestine, damaging the intestinal lining, This reaction can cause severe pain and long-term health complications,
Being a coeliac affects far more than just digestion. It can lead to nutrient deficiencies, nausea, vomiting, headaches, chronic fatigue, growth problems, joint pain, skin rashes, and neurological issues such as ataxia (problems with balance and coordination)
Living as a coeliac means constant vigilance and strict dietary control.
There is no cure for being a coeliac right now, only strict lifelong management through a gluten-free diet. Even tiny traces of gluten can cause harm, making everyday life a constant challenge and anxiety provoking for those affected.
I am running my first marathon in Brighton on April 12th 2026 to raise funds to support Coeliac UK. An amazing organization that supports people with coeliac disease and gluten-related conditions. It provides trusted information, guidance, and resources to help individuals manage a gluten-free diet safely and confidently. The charity also works to raise awareness about coeliac disease, improve food labelling and gluten-free options, fund research into better treatments and diagnosis, and campaign for better recognition and support within healthcare and the food industry
This fundraiser is in honour of my son, and for the millions of children and adults around the world who face this every day.
