Story
Our mother, Aziz Begum, passed away on 28th January 2025, aged 85 years old.
"With Hardship Comes Ease." This was the theme of this year's Islamic Relief UK Glasgow Ramadhan Launch event.
Given the loss of my mum 2 weeks before, I was in two minds about whether to attend this event as I didn't want to attend any public event due to my immense grief. However, when I reread the event's theme the day before and saw that it was about ease coming after hardship, I knew I needed to be there.
Unbeknownst to me, the fundraising was all about saving the lives of pregnant women in Gaza and their babies. So many mothers-to-be lose their lives in pregnancy or just after giving birth. So many babies are lost whilst in their mothers' wombs or directly after birth as they don't have medicine or medical equipment that can prevent such deaths. Most of these deaths are preventable.
My mother had to bury 3 sons (1yr old, 1.5 yrs old, and 45 yrs old). She is a mother who has been tested with trials and tribulations more than most and knows the pain of the mothers of Gaza. Despite her losses, she never gave up her faith and trust in Allah SWT, HE was the best of planners. Her tests made her closer to Allah SWT.
Allah SWT makes everything happen for a reason and planned for me to be there to get some ease, to get words of comfort from eminent scholars, for them to make duaa for my mother, and for me to commit to support mothers and babies in Gaza in the name of my mother.
Yes, I had to be there on so many levels, and it was Allah SWT's plan. I pledge to raise funds for the mothers and babies in Gaza and will need your support in my fundraising Gaza campaign in the name of my mother.
This maternity charity project is Zakat eligible, or you can give sadaqa towards it.
My heart hurts a little less knowing that other mothers and their babies can live.
Every penny raised here will be match-funded by my employer.
May Allah SWT grant my mother, all our loved ones, and everyone who had died in Palestine a lofty place in Jannat Al Firdous, and grant the families sabr at this difficult time.
A little about the charity project:
As conditions rapidly deteriorate amid this latest escalation, Islamic Relief remains steadfast in our determination to assist Palestinian families.
Since October 2023, we have provided over £30 million worth of aid and delivered over 58 million hot meals.
This Ramadan, Islamic Relief is supporting a Maternity project in As Sahaba Hospital in Gaza City and Khair Hospital in Khan Younis. This project aims to provide birthing services for pregnant women (caesarean or natural birth) for £500 per woman.
Please give generously to save a mother and her baby's life today.
Please share this Gaza Fundraising campaign on behalf of my mother Aziz Begum.
