Running the Sydney Marathon 2026 to Transform Lives with Breakthrough T1D UK
I am Dr Syed Ammar Husain, an Internal Medicine Trainee and endurance athlete, and in August 2026 I will be taking on one of the most iconic challenges of my athletic journey — the Sydney Marathon, my fourth out of six World Major Marathon.
This time, I’m running to raise £2,000 for Breakthrough T1D UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people living with Type 1 Diabetes through cutting-edge research, advocacy, and life-changing support.
Why Breakthrough T1D?
Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong autoimmune condition that affects both children and adults, demanding relentless daily management and constant vigilance. Despite how common and impactful it is, there is still no cure.
Breakthrough T1D funds pioneering research aiming to change that — by accelerating scientific innovation, improving access to care, and empowering families affected by T1D. Every pound raised brings us closer to breakthroughs that could transform millions of lives.
Why I’m Running
As a doctor, I’ve seen first-hand the physical, emotional, and financial toll that chronic conditions like Type 1 Diabetes have on patients and families. I’ve cared for young people newly diagnosed, parents trying to navigate the fear and uncertainty, and adults living with the long-term complications of T1D.
Running has always been my platform to raise awareness, advocate for health, and stand for communities who deserve hope. The Sydney Marathon is not just another race for me—it’s an opportunity to push my limits in solidarity with those who fight daily battles far greater than 42.2 kilometres.
My Journey So Far
Over the past few years, I’ve completed:
London Marathon (2022)
Berlin Marathon (2024)
Chicago Marathon (2025)
Multiple half-marathons, an ultramarathon, and a triathlon
Each race has been dedicated to supporting humanitarian and health-related causes. Sydney 2026 will mark another chapter in using endurance sport to drive meaningful change.
How Your Support Helps
Your donations will directly fund:
Groundbreaking research aiming for cures
Better treatment options to reduce the burden of daily injections and monitoring
Support programmes for children, adults, and families navigating life with T1D
Advocacy to ensure fair access to technology, including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors
Every contribution, no matter how small, takes us one step closer to a world where Type 1 Diabetes no longer controls lives.
Together, We Can Create Change
When I cross the Sydney Marathon finish line in August 2026, I want it to represent more than just a personal achievement—it should represent hope, progress, and unity for people affected by Type 1 Diabetes.
I ask you to stand with me in supporting Breakthrough T1D UK.
Your generosity will directly change lives.
Thank you for believing in this mission and for being part of this journey.
