Anne-Marie Aviates for the Alzheimer's Society

Skydive Day May 2024 · 25 May 2024 to 26 May 2024 ·
This is me and my Nana. I loved my Nana, she was probably my favourite person in the world growing up. I loved to sit by the old gas fire with her and her cat Felix who had serious anger management issues. Every long weekend, half term and holiday was spent travelling back to Wales to see her. Then there was that time she put the electric kettle on the gas stove.
She told me stories and if I was awake early I might sneak into her room and get into bed with her- my mum and I joke now that she was such a light sleeper that once you were tucked in you had to stay absolutely still. All those memories of her at Christmaes, my first solo trip by train from Reading to Neath with her greeting me at the station, or the times I watched my mum perm her hair in the living room.
And then there was that time when I was 10 and found a new white cardigan fit for a 4 year old. It had pretty flowers on it and I asked Nana who it was for. She said it was for Anne-Marie. I told her that I was Anne-Marie. She said I wasn't.
Alzheimers is a terrifying, hidden disease that took away parts of my favourite person moment to moment, memory from memory. We don't talk about it because it scares us, the idea that our memories and personality, that which makes us who we are, could gradually be robbed from us. It terrifies me. So I'm going to do something terrifying to help tackle it. In May (weather and work allowing) I'm going to skydive for the Alzheimers Society and I'd really appreciate it if you could order even just a small amount. I never do this, once in a decade I raise money for charity - I avoid it because it's hard and especially now a lot of people are struggling.
At the Alzheimer’s Society they're working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
