Story
In my sisters memory, I will be cycling from London to Paris in 24 hours with https://www.londontoparissportive.com/what-we-do. We will ride a total of 184 miles in this time and I want to use this event to help raise funds and awareness for the UK Sepsis Trust https://sepsistrust.org/.
This is my sisters story:
Amardeep sadly passed on July 26th 2021, she had just turned 40 in April.
Amardeep broke her ankle on June 17th whilst playing football with her son & daughter in the park. After having two operations, she was at home recovering but gradually started to feel an increasing amount of pain. She was given extra pain medication by her local GP. The pain continued to get worse and a few days after she was told by the GP practice to not go in due to them thinking she may have Covid (she didn't). Amardeep was admitted into A&E via ambulance on July 15th with Sepsis like symptoms. On July 18th we were told that her condition had worsened and would be put in an induced coma. My sister experienced further complications which ultimately resulted in Amardeep having a major stroke on July 25th. On July 26th, Amardeep's life support was switched off with my father and I by her bedside. Amardeep left behind two beautiful children; Khushpreet and Vaaris.
If the money raised for this event can help just one family raise the alarm and help detect sepsis symptoms sooner, it will be enough.
Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis.
It raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms.
It also funds our vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
