London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·

The Sussex Beacon is delighted to be supporting #TeamBeacon - our runners in the iconic London Marathon when it returns to April 2024. They will be pounding the pavements of the capital and raising vital funds for people living with HIV in Sussex.

Story

I am running the London marathon this April! I completed the brighton marathon last year and got the running bug so I'm back to do another one this year. This time however I wanted to complete it whilst raising money for an excellent cause. As someone who works as a carer, I know how underfunded the sector and how important the extra support can be for the people who need it so The Sussex Beacon are the perfect fit!

The Sussex Beacon supports people in Sussex who are living with HIV. Changes in medication now mean that most people live a full and long life, however for the most vulnerable, its a constant challenge. We assist not only with the HIV diagnosis but also secondary conditions like diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular disease or kidney disease. Many of our patients need social care and help with their day to day lives as well as an increasing mental health support.

We support individuals ageing with HIV and are increasing frail and more prone to other infections. They are also more likely to be living alone or isolated and prone to depression and poor mental health.

The Sussex Beacon offers specialised support and a safe place for everyone living with HIV in Sussex.

Please support our amazing #TeamBeacon runners and show your support if you can by making a donation. Running 26.2 miles is a massive achievement and we are extremely grateful to all our team.
