Story
I'm running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April 2024 to raise money for the Red Foundation, a charity that provides emergency Dachshund Rescue in the UK.
You may be wondering why on earth these gorgeous Dachshunds need any fundraising at all, after all they are so popular.... well, that's exactly why they need your donations. Due to the popularity of Dachshunds, there are more and more cases of Dachshunds needing urgent of care due to sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or cruelty.
Puppy farms are cruel and horrific and sadly, because this breed is so popular, there are more and more farms popping up in the UK which forces these little dogs to have litter after litter which are cruelly ripped away at a young age. Poor breeding in Dachshunds can lead to lifelong health issues and behavioural problems and when not managed in the right way, Dachshunds can develop aggression and due to their shape, they are often susceptible to illnesses like IVDD.
A combination of poor breeding, a lack of knowledge on the breed and IVDD results in large numbers of these dogs finding themselves without a home and here’s where the Red foundation comes in. Their objective is to relieve the suffering of Dachshunds and Dachshund Cross Breeds that are in need of care and attention and, in particular, they provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for surrendered or rescued Dachshunds.
Established in 2017, the Red Foundation are a 100% Non-Profit, run by volunteers who have full time jobs but have a shared love of the breed and spend all their spare time running the charity.
Your donations will help the charity continue their work in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming these wonderfully unique little dogs.
