‘Run the Raid’ Lindisfarne half marathon · 10 August 2025

Rowans Hospice provides end of life care across South East Hampshire. We help improve quality of life for the patient around the clock. We receive a very small level of Government support and almost all of the money required to provide our services needs to be raised through voluntary giving.

Story

My Dad and I will be running a half marathon in August in memory of Steve Thomas, my lovely Uncle, and my Dad’s brother and best friend.

We’re raising money for Rowans Hospice, who cared for Steve and supported his wife and 3 sons during the final weeks of his life. Steve was diagnosed with cancer and, devastatingly, passed away just five weeks later. In that short and difficult time, the team at Rowans were incredible in making sure he was as comfortable as possible and supporting all of us with kindness and compassion.

Steve personally thanked the staff for their care and support himself, and now we’d like to thank them too by raising as much as we can to help others in similar situations.

Rowans Hospice provides outstanding palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses in South East Hampshire. They work to improve quality of life not only for patients but also for their families, offering physical, emotional, spiritual and social support 24 hours a day.

Most importantly, almost all of their funding comes from donations and fundraising. They receive minimal government support, which makes your donations even more vital.

I know Uncle Steve would be proud, and we’re proud to do this in his name. Thank you for reading and thank you even more if you choose to donate.
