The Baton of Hope is a national charity that has a mission of a zero-suicide society. I feel unbelievably privileged to have been chosen to carry The Baton of Hope in Derby, 2025. I am very open about my mental health struggles, and how others helped to save my life.
Throughout my teens and 20's, I struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. With the darkness of shame after attempting to take my life several times, things spiralled. Without my loving family and the support from services, I wouldn't be alive today. However, I realise how lucky I am to have a supportive family and had access to support; Unfortunately, not everyone is this fortunate.
I now work within the mental health sector. I am passionate about using my lived experience to helping to ensure people are heard as individuals within their community. I am committed to wellness and will always shout about how important it is to be open & honest <3
It is possible to live well after dark times. Whether good, bad or in-between... everyone with a brain has mental health, just like a body and physical health. There is never any shame in seeking support!
Born out of tragedy, fuelled by hope. It began with two fathers reaching out in their grief after losing their sons to suicide (Ross and Jordan). Now, it is led by Mike McCarthy (Ross’s dad), who people may know from Sky News.
