Great Manchester 10K · 18 May 2025 ·

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

On the 12th of June 2024, life as we knew it devastatingly turned upside down when, at 12 years old, Harry was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, a very aggressive form of cancer of the white blood cells. Seven months, four rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant later, Harry is exceeding expectations and recovering amazingly!

Through our darkest moments we were all supported by Jen and her team from the Teenage Cancer Trust based at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and they continue to support Harry today and will for years to come. To give a little something back, please consider supporting us to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust when we (Lucy, Jolley, Phoebe and Amy) run the Manchester 10K on Sunday 18th May with Team Jen, so they can continue their wonderful work to support children like Harry, and their families.

Hi All,

Thank you so much for taking time to look at our page!

This page will be shared by all who are doing the run! We run as a team not an individual and we will help and support each other across the finish line!

We are doing the run again in May 2025! Last time we had a team of 71 people, next time we are aiming to have 100 people running with us! Running in our team this year will be Staff members from TCT, Ward 86, Ward 84, School, Psychology, play team. We will also be joined by all our families, friends and Gym buddies.

More importantly some of our young people who have been through treatment will be running with us as well as their families and friends. I am so proud to have been part of their journey and will run alongside them all with pride!

Teenage Cancer Trust supports Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) who have had a diagnosis of cancer.

As a youth support coordinator I have the pleasure of supporting young people from diagnosis through to 2 years post treatment.

Its really difficult to hear the words 'You have cancer' as a teenager they they may be sitting exams, starting college or university.

During treatment we do lots of activities on the ward including arts and crafts, playing games, doing TikToks, Karaoke, pizza nights, watching movies and chatting. We always try to make everyday a happy day with distractions and doing activities each young person enjoys. We are often seen laughing our way through the days and making the wards a happy place.

We also go on lots of trips and residentials where the young people get to explore new places and make memories that will last a lifetime. It is important for all young people to meet others also going through treatment as they understand each other and know they are not alone in how they feel.

We build a positive relationship with each young person as we spend so much time together so although we have lots of laughter and fun some days can be quite difficult as young people can be extremely unwell both physically and mentally. At times like this we will just sit quietly and offer reassurance as and when needed.

Please help by sponsoring us so no child ever has to face cancer alone!
