Story
I’m running the 2026 London Marathon for Mind! 🏃♀️
Mental health is health, and no one should have to suffer alone.
In April 2026, I’m running the London Marathon for Mind, the UK’s leading mental health charity. I’m not just doing it for the challenge. I’m doing it because I’ve seen, up close, how powerful mental health support can be.
This run is for my sister, for the journey she’s had, the strength she’s shown, and the help she has received.
Our Story… Why Mental Health Support Matters!
When my sister was a teenager, she was bullied relentlessly. The emotional toll was devastating. But back then, mental health wasn’t something people talked about, it was new. We were left to figure it out on our own as a family, with no clear guidance and no real understanding of what she was going through.
She struggled for a long time. But when she finally got the support she needed, everything changed. Therapy, tools, and professional mental health care helped her reclaim her life. She wasn’t “cured,” but she was no longer fighting alone.
That’s what Mind is all about. They exist to make sure people don’t reach breaking point before they get help. They provide life-changing sometimes life-saving support to those who are struggling.
When the Past Doesn’t Stay in the Past.
In 2024, my sister was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). This is a condition where the brain struggles to send and receive signals properly, often due to unresolved psychological trauma.
For her, it all links back to that time in her life… The bullying, the fear, the feeling of being unheard and unsupported.
Since then, she’s experienced a wide range of symptoms that come in episodes and have completely changed her life. Seizures, paralysis, loss of speech, memory problems and brain fog, tremors, eye rolling, fatigue, and chronic pain have all become part of our everyday reality.
What people don’t often realise is that FND is deeply connected to mental health. The trauma didn’t just affect her emotionally it rewired how her brain and body to respond to stress, fear, and memory. Now, she’s not only dealing with these difficult physical symptoms but also the emotional weight of losing her independence and having to rebuild her life all over again.
That’s why mental health support is still just as vital today to help her navigate this new reality, to manage the anxiety, grief, and depression that can come with it, and to live with dignity and hope.
