Story
I am happy to share that I have been accepted on a charity place to run for the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance in April 2025.
On 27th May 2024, my wonderful Dad was spending some time in the garden when he had a fall which broke all of his ribs and punctured his lung, collapsing it and causing subcutaneous emphysema.
After the paramedics arrived, the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance were called. They responded extremely quickly and delivered a surgeon to perform an emergency thoracostomy before my Dad was moved to Addenbrookes Hospital.
He then spent a month in Intensive Care, putting up an extremely tough fight before the complications he experienced unfortunately became too much.
He passed peacefully with my mum, my sister and I by his side on Thursday 27th June 2024. This has left an enormous hole in our lives.
Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and the incredible work they did on that day gave our family some time with him which we will be forever grateful for. It took them 90 seconds to reach our house, and we would not have been able to have those cherished moments with my Dad without them. EHAAT relies heavily on donations and fundraising to operate, with limited support from the government and no access to the National Lottery funding.
I have already completed two challenges in memory of my Dad to raise money for two charities - a 15,000ft skydive and trekking 24.5 miles across the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, completing this in under 11 hours. I was able to achieve my first two fundraising targets, and now I am hoping to extend that to a target of £3,300.
My Dad truly believed I could do anything I set my mind to. I am not a runner in any way, so this will be a gruelling test to see how far outside of my existing limits I can push myself.
Any donations are hugely appreciated and will be a big motivator to get out there and train!
