Story
Each rider has been asked to write a little something about why they’re taking on this challenge.
I’ll be honest. I’ve been putting off writing this because I know it’ll bring up some difficult feelings. Doing events like these shine a spotlight on mental health and suicide prevention. But for me, it also highlights the reason the charity exists in the first place, because my sister took her own life. This is something that has affected me a lot more than anyone will ever know, and something that will continue to affect me for the rest of my life.
When I did ‘The Loneliest Road’ across America in 2022 I can honestly say it was the best experience of my entire life. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t easy to say the least, and no doubt this challenge will be extremely difficult both physically and mentally. But because of the experience I had, spreading awareness of mental health and the positive effect it had on people across the world, I couldn’t not take part in another challenge.
We want to let people know you don’t need to suffer alone. There is help out there and you can be supported. Your feelings, worries, anxieties, stresses, whatever it is, doesn’t need to lead to suicide. I can’t and never will be able to express how Kelly’s suicide has affected me and the ripple effect that has been caused by it.
I am so grateful to be a part of this incredible team with my husband, my dad, my father-in-law, 7 other cyclists along with a great support crew to create more memories and share this experience together.
Please show your support as we cycle over 1200 miles from Gibraltar back to the UK, over 14 days, by spreading the word, donating if you can, or sending us message of encouragement. Your support will mean the world to us all.
Thank you
