Story
In August 2026, we welcomed our beautiful daughter, Ella into the world. At just 9 days old, we had some concerns which led to blood tests that revealed significantly raised bilirubin levels, with doctors concerned about the possibility of Biliary Atresia, a rare and serious liver condition affecting around 1 in 20,000 babies. Thankfully, Ella’s levels have continued to decrease, and she remains involved in discussions with the Specialist Liver Unit based at Leeds Hospital while further investigations continue within North Tees Hospital.
Although our experience so far has been more positive than many families affected by this life-changing condition, we will never take Ella’s progress for granted. Throughout our journey, we were shocked by how many people, including health professionals, had never heard of Biliary Atresia. We believe raising awareness is vital, as recognising early signs, particularly pale or clay-coloured stools, can help babies receive the investigations and specialist care they need as quickly as possible.
To show our appreciation for the care Ella has received from North Tees Hospital and the Leeds Liver Team, and to support other families affected by this condition, we are completing 100 miles throughout November, ahead of Biliary Atresia Awareness Day on 1st December.
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated - thank you 🩷
