The TCS London Marathon is one of the most iconic sporting events in the UK but it is also The Dockland Settlements most important fundraising event of the year. Please support our heroic runners and give generously!

Story

On 27 April 2025, I will be taking on the TCS London Marathon as a personal challenge and, more importantly, to raise funds for The Dockland Settlements Food Bank. This charity has been supporting disadvantaged communities in East London since 1894, and today, its work is more vital than ever.

With three food banks in operation, including one that assists over 1,400 people weekly, The Dockland Settlements offers essential support to those facing food insecurity, including asylum seekers, families in crisis, and individuals in need. Beyond food banks, they also provide job seeking support, distribute essential resources, and bring communities together—especially during difficult times like the holiday season.

Why am I running?

Beyond personal achievement and pushing myself outside my comfort zone, running for a meaningful cause is what truly drives me. Volunteering at Dockland Settlements and seeing the difference they make was an eye-opening experience. Their commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals, whether through food assistance or life-changing initiatives, inspired me to take on this challenge.

When I learned that I could support their work through the London Marathon, I knew I had to get involved. Knowing that my friends, family, and colleagues are standing behind me in support of this cause makes the experience even more rewarding.

How far have I run before?

The farthest I have run is 27 miles—a full marathon plus an extra mile during the 2020 Virtual London Marathon! Due to a GPS tracking glitch, I had to run an extra mile to complete the challenge. These days, my training includes a mix of running, swimming, and spin classes, and I’m gradually increasing my distances to take on the 26.2 miles once again.

How have people reacted?

Honestly, I can’t quite believe I’m doing this again either! My friends and colleagues have been incredibly supportive, and some have even said they feel inspired to push themselves outside their own comfort zones. Their encouragement, generosity, and high expectations have been huge motivators—so long as my knees hold up!

What’s the first thing I’ll do after crossing the finish line?

Take a moment to pull myself together—then find my AmTrust teammates, who will have likely finished ahead of me!

How can you support?

By donating to The Dockland Settlements Food Bank, you can help ensure they continue their incredible work supporting those most in need. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards food supplies, job-seeking support, and community programs that change lives.

Please consider donating to support this important cause. Every pound makes a difference. Thank you for your support!
