I am running on behalf of RNIB because helping people with visual impairment or loss is part of my personal mission. I grew up in the optical industry and have owned my own optical shop for 15 years.  When I arrive at my store everyday I am not coming to 'work', I am coming to help people see and feel good about themselves. 

I have a colleague that has been a mentor, a friend and an inspiration to me for over 20 years. This individual has Retinitis Pigmentosa and has been legally blind since the day that I met him. He has not let that slow him down! He is a Professor and Chair of an Opticianry College program, a national speaker, a husband, dad, there is nothing he won't tackle. I have been witness to how his vision has progressively changed over the years to now almost total blindness. He has inspired myself and others by continually adapting to challenges, but also showing vulnerability and not being afraid of asking for help. I want to run to honor his perseverance and to encourage others that they to, can do anything they set their mind to.

RNIB has a #Seethe person campaign which encourages sighted people to think about the part we can play in improving the world for people with vision loss. The more we normalize and accept our many differences, the less alone all of us may feel.
