Amy's swimming Lake Geneva for Bowel Cancer UK

Lake Geneva · 7 August 2023
At the beginning of August, I will be undertaking a swim that I have spent the last 3 years training for; an end-to-end swim of the 70km length of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva).
Ultra-marathon swimming isn't something that lots of my friends and family are into, so let's put that into some context. A 70km swim is 7 swim "marathons", so this is roughly the equivalent of;
- A 300km / 185mile run
- A 1100km / 700mile cycle
- Walking from London to Bristol
- Or for the swimmers among you: a freshwater double-English Channel.
I'm hoping (for myself, and my poor dear crew who are going to be on the support boat for me...) that this swim will take me between 27 and 33 hours. I am doing this swim for Bowel Cancer UK, the charity that I have been supporting since my father was diagnosed far too many years ago now.
I wrote last year for my Guernsey to France world record swim about why I swim in his memory. A memorial that I still can't read now without crying. If you would like to know why I do this, please take the time to read that page.
If you look at those numbers above and think to yourself "I could never do anything for that long", then please consider donating to BCUK. If I've ever impressed you with my training, please think about donating. If you've ever wanted to buy me a coffee and haven't got around to asking, please donate that £3 to BCUK instead.
