Story
Smarties, sepsis and summits…….
Please help my family and I reach our 2023 charity target of £3000 for 3 charities very close to our hearts.
In the midsts of lockdown I was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer and at that moment time seemed to stop still.
I underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy, 16 rounds of immunotherapy, 3 surgeries (1 as a result of post op sepsis), 5 rounds of radiotherapy, total hair loss and a further 10 years on preventative drugs to help rid me of the disease. All whilst home schooling (surely that deserves a donation!)
The hard work was worth it and I was delighted to hear the news in April 2021 that I had the all clear (NED).
During treatment I learnt a very sobering fact that 10 years prior to my treatment they hadn’t discovered a drug that would have cured my particular type of BC and the unfortunate reality is there are still many thousands of people in that position today and many others battling secondary cancer. This fact alone made me determined to raise money to help others like myself.
We’re raising money for 3 charities, Macmillan, Breast Cancer Now and Cancer Research who all have helped us on our journey in one way or another and who all invest in finding future cures. We plan to split the funds 3 ways, we’ve already made over £800 for Macmillan through cake sales and will host another this year to top the amount up.
So after a long family meeting a plan was hatched, mummy and daddy to take part in an ultra challenge around the Isle of Wight for Breast Cancer Now- currently postponed due to an unexpected stay in hospital.
And as a family we’ve climbed Snowdon to raise funds for Cancer Research. This took a mammoth effort from us all, but in particular the girls who really blew me away with their want to complete the challenge and raise lots of money. (Also a lot of thanks to a giant grab bag of smarties!) The girls have also offered to grow their hair to donate to the little princess trust, as well as run a number of cake sales and loom band sales to raise funds. I’m so proud of them and hope you’ll all be able to donate a little to support us and to help all the ordinary mums and dads and children, like us, who are affected by this horrible disease.
Thank you for reading my story and thank you in advance for all your sponsorship.
