Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page!
In October I'll be running the Manchester Half Marathon. This is a pretty special challenge for me, as at certain points throughout my childhood it was unclear whether or not I'd ever be able to walk properly, let alone run! Due to a rare bone condition affecting my leg, at 6 years old I underwent a critical bone transplant from my left fibula to my right tibia at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. After some complications, I spent the following 10 years undergoing leg lengthening treatments, corrective operations, physiotherapy, and plastic surgery.
Thanks to the miracle work performed at Alder Hey throughout my childhood, I relearnt to walk for the final time at the age of 17 and never looked back! And I can't think of a better way to give back to the hospital that saved my legs, than by directly using them to fundraise.
Understandably, I'm still not a great runner. I'm not even 100% sure whether my reconstructed legs have got 21.1km of running in them...
But whether or not I make it to the finish line, I'm going to try my absolute best and be extremely proud of the result. What's most important to me is that I give back to Alder Hey, and help them continue their amazing work for future children and families in need.
