Story
As a Salvation Army Officer over the past 30 years, I have worked in many areas where families struggle to cope with daily life. I have seen first hand the effects poverty and a sense of hopelessness, but also the joy and privilege of seeing families flourish and thrive through belonging to a supportive community. The Salvation Army is committed to providing affordable spaces where families can access practical assistance and grow together. By participating in the London Marathon 2025, I aim to raise funds for Salvation Army initiatives making a difference to families in Morley and the wider Yorkshire area. These efforts include food banks, holiday clubs, camps, young parents groups, Messy Church, brass lessons for children, and much more! Despite not being a great runner, I am embracing the challenge of the marathon to stand in solidarity with those who face challenges every day.
The Salvation Army is a Christian Church & registered Charity working in 130 countries worldwide and is one of the largest and most diverse providers of social welfare in the world. In the UK and Republic of Ireland this work includes more than 800 Salvation Army social service centres and community churches. We provide unconditional friendship, support and very practical help to people in crisis and need and work with children, homeless people, all adult victims of modern slavery and those dealing with drug and/or alcohol addiction.
