My name is Andrew Akuruka, and I’m proud to be competing in this year’s Mr Gay GB—not just as a proud gay man, but as a father, business owner, and advocate for the power of authenticity.

But this journey is about more than a sash or title—it’s about standing for something greater than myself. That’s why I’m raising funds for the Charlie & Carter Foundation, an incredible charity that supports families of seriously ill children who require 24-hour care.

As a full-time father to my son King, I understand just how sacred the parent-child bond is. I also know the immense pressure parents face when trying to balance love, care, and survival. The Charlie & Carter Foundation steps in during the darkest times, providing not just financial help—but hope.

Through Mr Gay GB, each contestant champions a cause that reflects their heart. For me, it was never a question. I’m raising money to honour the strength of families and the memory of little Charlie and Carter—two beautiful lives that continue to inspire so many.
