Andrew Baines is raising money for Prostate Cancer Research

1000 mile ride from Wigan to Perpignan · 2 May 2025

People affected by prostate cancer need breakthrough treatments. Research is the only way to turn this hope into reality. Combining patient stories and scientific expertise, we fund projects that have a real impact, reducing side-effects, cutting treatment costs and ultimately improving outcomes.

Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!

In 2024 I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. That came about because I had other issues and this was discovered by chance.

The treatment has been successful and now I’m looking to enjoy life to the full, whilst giving a little back.

A cycle ride through France was cancelled last year because of the diagnosis, so this year I’m going to ride from Wigan to Perpignan in the south of France (with help from Micky who’s supporting me all the way).

Why? Because I can, and I love Wigan rugby league football club who are playing Catalan Dragons in Perpignan on May 24th. I’ll be setting off from the Brick Community Stadium on May 2nd, giving me (hopefully) plenty of time to cycle to Portsmouth for a ferry to St Malo, then from there through France to the game.

There is no routine scanning for this cancer because the current PSA blood test isn’t wholly reliable. Raising funds to help address that problem is the goal for this adventure.

Prostate Cancer Research are dedicated to creating brand new prostate cancer treatments. Prostate cancer is now the most diagnosed cancer in the UK and 11,500 men die from the disease every year. People affected by prostate cancer need breakthrough treatments, and research is the only way to turn this hope into reality.

Their vision is clear; a world where people are free from the impact of prostate cancer. I’m part of #TeamPCR because I share this vision. Will you help me support their research?
