Cheshire Virtuosi concert fundraiser at 4pm on Sunday 14th May at Nantwich Civic Hall for The British Red Cross Turkey/Syria Earthquake Appeal
Fundraising for The British Red Cross Society
On Monday 6 February at 4:17am local time, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey (officially known as Türkiye) near the city of Gaziantep, devastating parts of Türkiye and Syria. It was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks. On the same day, at 13:24 local time, a second earthquake (M7.5) hit the Elbistan district around 80 miles north of Gaziantep.
So far, its been reported that over 45,000 people have died as a result of the earthquakes, with many thousands more injured.
Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay) and Syrian Arab Red Crescent emergency responders have been working tirelessly since day one to help people affected by the earthquakes, providing first aid and essentials like food, water, blankets and shelter. Their teams were already rooted in the local communities, and are providing unique access to the hardest hit areas.

emerged from the pandemic giving inspiring and innovative professional concerts in the local community around Crewe and Nantwich. It's run by the passion and energy of professional bassoonist, and Music Director of Worleston Music School, Andrew Bassey.
Andrew has a passion to bring the world's most wonderful chamber music to the local community at an affordable price. Rather than having to travel to Manchester, Birmingham and London people can access great quality music on their doorstep. This is good for the local community and the environment.
Each concert also support a local or national charity. Our first concert after the pandemic, October 9th 2022, pictured on page one, featured rarely played nonets and raised vitally needed funds for NHS Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity based at Leigton Hospital. We played female conposer Louise Farrenc's wonderful nonet in Eb, the film composer Nino Rota's nonet in Bb, a new commission by Andrew Bassey based on the 1970's hit Tears of a Clown, by horn player Peter Richards and a duet for Bassoon and Bass by Albert Roussell.
The players have included: bassist Leon Bosch, violinist Ben Holland, oboist Hugh Mckenna, clarinetist Linda Merrick, flautist Wissam Boustany, viola player Mike Gerrard, violinist Shirley Richards, horn player Lindsey Stoker, horn player Peter Richards, cellist Mark Sheridan, cellist, Heather Bills, viola player Andrea Gilliatt, oboist Debbie Fuller, oboist Simon Beasley, pianist Jonathan Ellis, clarinettist Andrew Roberts, clarinettist Ruth Parry, pianist Andrew Wilde, conductor Dr Timothy Reynish MBE...
Andrew Bassey runs Worleston Music School and is not funded by Arts and County Council bodies because Worleston Music School is not a Charity like an amateur group. Therefore costs of players, hall, piano hire, publicity for each concert can only be met by concert revenue.
