Story
On 20th June Joanne and I will be attempting to complete the North York Moors 100km challenge walking non-stop up the coast from Scarborough to Whitby and back down through the moors to the start, aiming to finish in 24 hours.
This will be our 10th 100km nonstop walk since we began doing them in 2017 and with that in mind we would like to try and raise some money for a very worthwhile charity. Our friends Nicki and Patrick tragically lost their son Rob 10 years ago and along with their other son Sam set up a trust in his memory in 2016. The ethos of the Rob Stephenson Trust is “Laugh – Learn – Live – Play” with the aim of helping young people whatever their background participate in sport and enjoy the friendship and camaraderie that it brings. Something Joanne and I have been lucky enough to find by doing these challenges.
It somehow seems appropriate that doing the 10th challenge in Rob's backyard of North Yorkshire 10 years after the trust was set up in his memory that we should try and help this great cause.
Some may think Joanne and I are mad challenging ourselves and doing these walks, but we really do love doing them, we enjoy the build up, the event, and the post walk satisfaction not to mention the sleep! Its great participating and being part of an event with so many likeminded people that gives you the opportunity to step away from the day grind and throw yourself into the challenge. The camaraderie on the walks is fantastic, we meet new people every time, chat and laugh as we go and offer help and receive it as we go, all with the goal of getting to the end, and we have managed it 9 times to date. The ethos of how to approach and enjoy the challenge fits very well with that of the Rob Stephenson Trust and we would be delighted if you could show us some support by sponsoring us if you feel you are able to.
