Story

I’m getting back on the bike to help give a child a life changing adventure at FACT – one of my favourite places in the whole world!

Yep, in a couple of weeks’ time, on Sunday 13th September, I am taking part in the 55-mile London to Brighton cycle ride with a number of other FACT friends. It will be a wonderful but challenging ride and it would be fantastic if you could sponsor me. As it’s a 55 mile ride, including an ascent of the 800 foot Ditchling Beacon near the end, I’m wondering if you’d consider 55 units of sponsorship: £5.50, £55 or even £550 – although any amount will be just great

All money raised will go directly to FACT’s Bursary Fund – in 2026 it is anticipated that over £38,000 will be needed to grant all requests. Why not find out more about FACT at www.fact.org.uk

Fellowship Afloat Charitable Trust’s (FACT) Bursary Fund exists to ensure that “no child is left behind” and to support those who want to visit with their school, youth or church group but have limited means to do so. It gives financial assistance to both individuals and groups that might otherwise miss out on an adventure at FACT.

In 2025 FACT were able to give financial assistance to 354 young people – an amount of £30,211 – but FACT needs your help to continue to ensure they can respond positively to every bursary request. A school group leader recently said;

“The children who received this bursary were able to experience the residential trip without their parents worrying about the financial burden. Being an increasingly difficult time for families, we and they view this as a blessing, it opens up access to a trip that they would otherwise not be able to participate in. The children returned very happy from their experience. The bursary funding available to our families is an extremely necessary support option that is invaluable. Without it there would be a lot of children who would not be able to take part in this residential trip. We are very grateful for the support that FACT offers and the opportunities it provides our children.”

And if you didn’t know FACT, an RYA accredited residential sailing centre, is based in Tollesbury, Essex, on a unique converted light vessel and offers lots of activities – high ropes, climbing wall, power boating, kayaking, sailing, field studies, archery, team building games and night walks. Each year FACT welcomes over 2,000 visitors and each residential visit is tailor-made to fit the requirements of the group, many of which have been coming to FACT for over 25 years.

Thank you for your support!
