Walking dressed as the opposite sex · 14 October 2023

The Lloyd's and City of London Branch Royal British Legion raises funds to help those in need, who are currently serving or have served in the British Armed Forces. Each year we coordinate London Poppy Day. We are the custodians of remembrance in the Lloyd's and City of London community.

There is a saying “ that behind every great man is a greater women”. Usually with a bucket and shovel to clean up the mess he has left behind.

A lot of focus of the armed services is on the service personnel e.g In the Army predominantly the male soldiers. But supporting them is a wife, a mother, a sister, a Grandmother. They have to go through a lot and usually in silence. Exactly the same for female personnel of the services. Behind them a father, a husband, a brother or Grandad. Some of this emotional support is very traumatic.

This walk is all about walking in their shoes. It is to appreciate what the opposite sex has to go through when supporting their loved ones who have served or continue to serve in the armed services.

On Saturday 14th October, the Clipstone and Forest branch members of the RBL will be setting off from Clipstone Welfare, the walk will finish at Forest Town Welfare. Along the way we will be calling into the Top House, Whitegates and King Charles pubs. Rattling tins as we go along.

All personnel doing the walk will be dressed in the opposite sexes clothes. But more importantly, Shoes. The thought process behind the walk is to appreciate what the opposite sex has to go through.
